HIROSHIMA

As I hear the Japanese children laughing as they walk by with not a care in the world. I stare at the ceremony on TV remembering the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. When you live with the Japanese you discover how gentle, considerate, and enthusiastic they are. The Japanese military was of course  brutal and cruel in the past. During war we try to dehumanize people in order to justify our actions. "They are not like us"  We can see the same strategy being used by governments today.
That it's okay to Bomb Bomb Iran. Governments know that citizens will agree to anything if it's a big enough "crisis". (WMD)

Watching the children of Japan enjoying their life without fear is what I hope for all children. We have to fight harder to defeat Senator McCain and the neocons because I am convinced that "soft power" will never be used on their watch. We have to focus on peace a very powerful state of mind. It's time to transform a tragedy into a lesson learned. We can't do anything about the past but we can make sure it doesn't happen again. Let's raise the bar, we do have the power to change if only we are passionate and vigilant enough to do what is right. Governments would much prefer for us to be apathetic and docile but we have a surprise for them. We are not going to settle for mediocrity and lies anymore. We on Mydd are passionate and believe we can make a difference. We know with the right people we can accomplish anything. Let's take a deep breath and keep our eyes on the prize. Let's remember why we are so passionate and that we have so much in common and a love for our fellow man (Except for Rankles) We have to focus on what issues we feel will really make a difference and what we expect of our new President. Prepare for success because we are going to win. Let's
start with peace on Mydd. I apologize to anyone I have offended on this site and wish you my best.
My thoughts go out to all who have lost loved ones due to war. PEACE

Really? Maybe it will pay for the war!! (2.00 / 1)

It's only costing us three trillion dollars.

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

Politicalslave, I spent a significant part of my childhood in Iran and know that the people of this region are not the enemy. What else can be said.

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

I have some Iranian friends. They are such great people. The only aspect I don't like is they are all smarter than I am. Ha Ha

How long did you live in Iran? and yes they are not the enemy.

we should remember the huge outpouring of (2.00 / 1)

grief in Tehran in response to the Sept 11 attacks.. NOT in support of the terrorists, against them.. and in sympathy to the almost 4,000 dead in NYC and Washington.. BECAUSE this is/was an issue that transcends politics..

Sometimes I can't help but wonder if Bush and his 'war cabinet' want us to wage war forever. (Then, I suppose, we need countries to wage war against.)

Iran's government is barbaric and oppressive, yes, BUT- its not governments that suffer or die in wars, its people.

Re: we should remember the huge outpouring of (none / 0)

I knew. The funny little secret is that Persians really like Americans, much to the dismay of their leaders.

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

From 1974 until we were evacuated in 79. It was very interesting being a young teenage girl in a coutry like Iran in the 70's. I guess I learned to be absolutely fearless from living there. On the other hand, the people are smart, passionate, funny, and rather gentle.

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

I live in rural Minnesota on an Indian Reservation and find that people all over do not understand others who are different from them. It does not matter if they live in Iran, Iraq or on Leech Lake, White Earth or Red Lake Indian Reservations, most white people seem to be unable to see these people as like them, just people. It is a serious problem.

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

It really is hard to believe isn't it. There are many people to my surprise that are not interested in anyone or anything different. Of course we have people who love to look down on others. I grew up near an Indian reserve so I had a few friends and they were so fun to be with. Great memories Take care

Re: HIROSHIMA (none / 0)

My father was a part of the initial occupational force in Japan...

He always refused to talk about it.
After his death my mother gave me a large envelope containing letters he wrote her (they were engaged)along with dozens of horrific photos.

Many were of small children playing with other children, terribly burned.

Although he never told us, she explained that is why he spent so much time playing with us six kids..

How sweet. What a wonderful father. He would understand so much by living in Japan. Thank you for sharing this.
